If you didn't  turn up for SHIKI's 2012 Fall-Winter Collection Fashion Show... then you have missed out on one hell of an experience.



Luckily for you, we've taken lots of pictures. So dear fashion readers of Second Life, sink your teeth in.

 
This year for SHIKI was all about Fine Art Meets Fashion. It all started when Shinichi Mathy and I met in real life around 9 months ago.

Long story short, I told him I painted expressionism paintings and he said he designed for Second Life and I said "what's that?"

Well, so that's how I got here. (We're skipping all that blood, sweat and tears side of things here today... I'll save that for another time... promise.)


Here I was still trying to work out what virtual reality fashion really meant. I've always been a bit of a gamer. Clothes in games were always extravagant religious robes or over the top plated armour. Real fashion? OK. My ears are yours... are there guns?

Well, besides drawing overly detailed highlights and shadows into our clothes, there really was no hacking nor slashing involved. In fact, using a dress instead of a 2D piece of fabric as my canvas was a challenge. I was overwhelmed by the proposal of the project but branching out so drastically from my comfort zone was something that really intrigued me.

 So we decided to run with it. Let's combine what we both do best and see how it turns out.

Shinichi and I both have a very similar sense of design and taste for aesthetics. Not only was I surprised by how well we connected at first, working with him has really revealed another part of me both as a person and as an artist. What we have ended up with was a collection of intricate, well balanced and cohesive designs that told a personal story of who I was, who I thought I was, who I think I am and who I really am.



This time, our show was organized by DEJAVOGUE. One thing I must commend about this agency was the quality of models that they hired.

I realized that simply making a dress doesn't complete it... unlike a painting, it's not complete until it's been handed over and put together by someone else... a stylist or in this case, a model.



Giving your work away to someone else while it has yet to be finished and letting them do your bidding is by far something any artist would want to do. (Any other artsy out there, you're hearing me, right?)

But much to my surprise. I was "pleasantly in awe." (Yes you can be horrified and in awe at the same time. Iffy feeling. Don't recommend it.)

What I really was touched by was realizing
that I wasn't telling my story alone anymore. It evolved and it rippled from many other hearts and radiated.


So those looking at getting their hands on some virtual high end fashion. Be sure to know that at SHIKI, you're not just buying a piece of clothing. You're spreading this ripple with a rendition of your own story to tell.


I'd like to personally thank all the models and the manager of DEJAVOGUE Dolce.Enderfield for making this all happen. Script writer Miele.Tarantal for writing such a detailed script on the runway. (It was precise, artsy and rubbed me the right way ok) Our wonderful models were:

It was a stunning show. And there will definitely be more to come. As I will also be in direct collaboration in SHIKI's 2013 Spring-Summer Collection. This season, we're talking about unique, original mesh and a rather quaint story to tell through our new designs and fabrics. After all, coming up with unique fabrics is what we do best here at SHIKI.

AVENUE Models has been a prominent name on the grid since October 2007. As Second Life evolves, and grows, we are excited to announce their re-launch event in honor of their fifth anniversary. As part of this much anticipated celebration, they will be hosting a series of fashion shows over the course of one weekend. We would be delighted if you would join us for the celebrations.

AVENUE Models is pleased to bring to the grid CINQUE, an amalgamation of three shows comprising AVENUE Pure, AVENUE Onyx and AVENUE 255.

AVENUE Pure is white in its most natural form, associated with innocence, purity, and cleanliness. White is known for creating smooth lines, and effortless yet chic attire.

AVENUE Onyx is the deepest black. It is a color of power and darkness but also representing the possibility of rebirth. Black is often associated with sophistication, sexuality, and formality.

AVENUE 255 is red in its purest form, also known as RGB 255. Red is a bold, vibrant and passionate color. All of the most desired items come in red, from Ferraris to rubies. It evokes feelings of passion and rage. Red is powerful.

AVENUE is famous for the development of innovative, and creative concepts, and with this in mind, we present AVENUE Pure, AVENUE Onyx and AVENUE 255 – minimalistic fashion shows with a touch of the avant garde and artistic. Each show will be based upon a single color – AVENUE Pure being white, AVENUE Onyx featuring only black, and ending with AVENUE 255, which will be solely red.

This fashion series promises to offer nothing but the dramatic flair AVENUE shows are known for. With an artistic backdrop and set teamed with ambient lighting designed and built by William Weaver coupled with custom windlight settings and a unique musical experience, we believe this series is the perfect setting to showcase Second Life’s most creative fashion artists.

SHIKI's Fall-Winter 2011 Fashion Show with OG celebrates the beauty of Japan with Japanese-inspired designs. The show played to an audience consisting of high-profile celebrities to SHIKI VIP's. Shiki at SL8B Tonight!

 Just a quick post to remind you that Shiki Designs will be joining The Sea Hole, MCD, and Fir & MNA for a very special presentation at Second Life's SL8B event this evening. Join us from 6pm to 7pm for Siren Production's SL8B Casual Fashion Show. We are very excited because this is the first time that SL fashion has been featured in the annual event. Shiki Designs at Japan Fashion Week 2010

Please join us Sunday (Oct 31) at 12pm noon, for the Shiki Designs presentation at Japan Fashion Week.

Japan Fashion Week is presented by SuperELITE Modeling Agency supported by Agata Model Agency. This week long event has been a collaborative effort between the teams at SuperELITE headed up by Amber Quinzet, and Agata Models Agency headed up by Sora Tatham.

Shiki is truly honored to be among  the best examples of Japanese SL designers featured during this week. The event is expected to demonstrate a variety of styles from the more traditional, to the unusual to the modern and latest fashion trends.

Come "Window Shopping" With Shiki Designs and the Timeless Agency

There is much to love about shopping in a virtual world and even though there are always new innovations, we could hardly want for more convenience. Browse, click, buy, then wear. It only takes a few moments to see and buy the latest from our favorite designers. Still, it's worth asking: have we traded something for all this convenience?

When Timeless Agency's Vitality Lollipop first told us that the theme for their show was "window shopping", my imagination instantly transported me to an evening stroll of looking at window displays from Bloomingdale's, Macy's, Barney's and others. Painstakingly arranged and glamorously illuminated, window displays give us a glimpse of the fabulous new life that awaits us inside the store. Great window displays have magic and are truly an art form.

Perhaps the lack of relevance would explain the rarity of window displays in SL but in any case, we are please to be a part of Timeless Agency's "Window Shopping" show as they bring their unique concept to life.

Tired of the long, cold, bitter winter Shiki is ready to bring a little spring to the city! March 27th, 2009 6-7pm SL Shiki, in cooperation with Siren Productions, will bring their Spring/Summer collection to the city streets. Shinichi brings his hip, chic, and stylish sensibility to both Men & Women creating a collection full of brilliant colors, clean lines, bold patterns, and earthy sensibility.

Shiki will be releasing the ENTIRE collection for one day only March 27th. After this the collection will disappear and release a few pieces at a time over the next several months.
